How Can I describe Anzac day?? A day that defines how I think of myself as an Australian.

A day that makes me immensely proud and immeasurably sad. Who else but Australians and our mad cousins, the New Zealanders, would take a disastrous defeat, military insanity and completley chaotic ineptitude and turn it into A matter of Intense National pride. who else??

No one else thats who..Except possibly for the bloody Irish, because the Irish are fucking insane as well. The Irish whose blood runs thickly in my family and in a lot of Australian Families.

To celebrate the defeat and the senseless slaughter that was and is Gallipoli. Is truly an Australian thing.

To be proud of the fact that we are descended from convicts and from the detritus of English society is a truly Australian thing.

I think that as Australians we really like to say, Oh Get Fucked you Bastard.. which really translates to, It's your shout.. and lets put our hands in our pockets and are you right mate..
In secret squirrel language it means we want to help.. this is truly an Australian thing

Phrases like ..No Shit Sherlock.. Flat out like a lizard drinking. You bewdy , and *this is a knife* And never ever, ever! apologising for not knowing the words to our National Anthem.. this is truly an Australian thing.

But I reckon that every Australian knows the words to Waltzing Matilda..

I often wonder what those young men and women that heeded the call to arms to serve their king and country. I wonder what they would think about the Australia of the 21st century.

Anzac day to me is My holy day. My day of tears and pride. A day that I never actually feel is a real day.I always wake up feeling disjointed on Anzac day. One of the first things that I do in the morning is look outside and check out what sort of day it is going to be. I looked out the bathroom window this morning and my first thought was, "Gosh it's foggy.

Then I noticed that the sun was an orangey red and I knew that it wasn't fog but bloody smoke. Thick stinky smoke from yet another of Forestry Tasmanias regeneration burns..

Strange.. Very Very Strange..

In February this year I wrote a post describing how global warming is to blame for my fat arse.. You can go and read it and then blame global warming for your fat bum too.. I will wait..

The spouse and I are keen anglers and as you might have gathered from previous posts of mine I am a bit of a greenie as well. I also notice stuff. Like the fact that it hasn't rained for ages. Umm like the fact that it is getting hotter. And And And that we are starting to catch strange species of fish in the river. Fish that are definitely 'Not Local Fish' *cue spooky music*

This is a juvenile Yellowtail Kingfish.. For goodness sakes! We caught this fish yesterday in the Derwent River .. WTF???? You don't normally catch these fish in the Derwent because it supposedly is a tad chilly for them. These extremely tasty fish like warmer waters and even though they can be found up the east coast around St Helens, we were totally gobsmacked to catch this little fellow down here. Of course we then tried flatstick to catch as many of this stray fishes siblings as we could... Sadly without any luck.. Maybe in a few years time these will be a common catch in our supposedly colder waters.. *Sighs*

The Flat Stanleys have come to visit..

We have some very special visitors staying with us at the moment. The flat Stanleys have arrived all the way from Missouri in the USA..

The Flat Stanleys have been very busy learning about Australian animals and are really enjoying their Tasmanian holiday.

We visited a wildlife park near our home and showed The Stanleys some wallabies, the wallabies were very interested in The Stanleys as well.

One wallaby was possibly a little too interested in The Stanleys.. and had a bit of a nibble,Ooops!

Phew! The Stanleys needed a rest in Amy's Pram after their close encounter, luckily there was no harm done.

We looked at different road signs. This sign is to warn motorists to slow down because wombats like to cross the road here..

We saw a wombat sleeping in a hollow log at the wildlife park as well..

12 Sponge Fingers (or Madeira cake sliced by 3 lengthways)

2/3 cup strong black coffee

2/3 cup Tia Maria

1 ¼ cups double cream

½ Cup Mascarpone Cheese

½ cup castor sugar

½ cup grated chocolate

Line the base and sides of a loaf tin with plastic wrap

Place one layer of cake in base, mix the coffee & liqueur together and pour 1/3 over cake, put the other 2 slices of cake in a shallow dish and pour remaining coffee mixture over them. Whip half the cream till stiff, then fold in sugar and cheese, spread half this mixture over cake and top with grated chocolate, add the second layer of cake and repeat, add last layer of cake (don’t add cream as this will form base of cake later) and refrigerate 2 hours, invert onto plate, remove plastic wrap and decorate with rest of whipped cream and grated chocolate.

My Mother emailed me her recipe for this yummy Tiramisu.. Trust me people this is divine...

Early last month Xbox4Nappyrash offered to interview a fellow blogger.. I very rashly jumped up and down going *Pick me! Pick me!* If you haven't read Xbox4Nappyrash's blog, you really need to go over to his blog and start reading.Martin has been Mocked by Nature.
He has worn odd shoes out in public.. My favourite post was when he gave his sperm a pep talk..God I wished that I was a sperm that day I was so inspired to perform well..

X4NR: First up, anyone who's anyone, i.e. me, wants to know what's behind the name, "Frog Ponds Rock"?

Kim: ...... I reckon that frog ponds 'rock' !!!... Hehehe actually I really like frogs and spent ages catching tadpoles at my nan's place as a kid. But there didn't seem to be many frogs on my property here. The fact that there wasn't any water either probably helped...So I made a frogpond. then I made another and another and ......

X4NR: Firstly, how did you manage to catch tadpoles where there was no water? and Secondly, were you really surprised at the lack of frogs considering you had kidnapped all the tadpoles?

Kim: Types v.e.r.y. v.e.r.y s.l.o.w.l.y... S.o that Martin's shagged out brain can catch up..

X4NR: That's not an answer woman, basically, you were trying to catch and breed no existent frogs in the desert. Is this accurate?

Kim: Yes that is true and I actually managed to succeed because I am a superstar...

X4NR: How much have you had to drink today?

Kim: Two cups of coffee(black) and a glass of water.*snicker* It is only midday... way to early for a drink hehehehe

X4NR: Did you really squirt breast milk "fresh from the pap" at a bunch of bikers?

Kim: Oh dear! How much money?.... No I have never ever been arrested, or locked up or even told to "shut up woman" by the police at all..I was raided by the drug squad when I was 18. Luckily I had just smoked all the dope so they didn't find anything.. they made a hell of a mess though..

X4NR: I would bet my fabulous hair that you have a tattoo, where?, when?, why? and who?

Kim: I do indeedy.. A tattoo of a crescent moon and 3 stars on my left hand. In the soft part between my thumb and index finger..I had it done for my 31st birthday.. the tattooist said he had a policy of not tattooing on peoples hands or faces.. I very nicely explained to him that I was well past 18 and when I showed him the design he agreed to do it..the only tattoos that women had then were butterflies on their bums or little birdies on their boobs.. Now only 11 years later tattoos are as common as...

X4NR: Common as what? finish that please... and bear in mind your interviewer may or may not also have gotten one 11 years ago....

I personally think that Australia will take a long time to recover from the Damage that the Howard years have done to our international reputation as well as the deeper wounds to our collective psyche.. So maybe it is a good thing that a lot of people overseas think that there is a Steve Irwin or a crocodile Dundee on every corner.

X4NR : Your family has an amazing matriarch…matriarchical…fuck it, 'female' presence, Your Nan, your Mum, You, Veronica, and her wee Amy. What's it like to be an active granddaughter and grandmother at the same time?

Kim: To tell you the truth I hadn't really thought about it. Nan and Mum are really strong women, well I suppose we all are strong women. Nan divorced her first husband just after the end of the war and was left to raise mum alone.. No government benefits in those days..

Mum was widowed when I was 14 and my little brother was 10.. I was the teenager from Hell! Oops this isn't really answering your question is it..?

Kim: I really enjoy being a grandmother it is heaps more fun than being the mother... I don't ever think of myself as a grand daughter. My relationship with my Nan started to change when I was pregnant with Veronica. Once I became a mother then Nan and I were women together. There was a shift in our relationship. I have been really busy doing a whole lot, of not much at all.. In lieu of Easter eggs David had his hair coloured.. I like it. I would have posted a better pic but Dave is a typical teen and spent a lot of time making silly faces at the camera. Little does he know that I am not afraid to use the silly photos as leverage whenever I need to..* insert evil laugh.. muuawaaahahhaaa

We have had some much needed rain. Not a lot of rain but enough rain so that I don't have to buy a load of water just yet..*phew...

David stayed at Veronica's last night and is staying there tonight as well.. Thanks Vonnie the cheque is in the mail..

So today I played 'my music' and cooked all day.

I took these pics after the spouse and I had sampled the rolls.. If Dave had been at home I would only have had photos of crumbs...

My little car died yesterday.. I had gotten quite attached to my ancient little mazda. (even though I only owned it for 6 months) I really liked the fact that you only had to whisper the words petrol and wave an oily rag in its general direction...

Here is my new car...Yay!!!! shiny.. The newest car I have ever owned was an 88 magna.. This car was made in the .. drumroll please.... the gasp nineties.. Wow!!!!

My uncle has sold this shiny shiny car to me...

Thanks heaps!!!! The best thing about my new Mazda is that David can sit in it comfortably.. Yay..( he is 6 foot 3 and growing every day)

Phew!!! luckily the strong winds forecast for this afternoon haven't arrived ,Yet....

This is the view from the western side of my house. all my "weather comes from the west"

This is the smoke from a big fire roughly 30 or so kilometres away.. that is "as the crow flies" or as the fucking embers float, whichever way you like to look at it.. It is too farking close..

All is well at the moment.Even though it is still a stinking hot 34 degrees at 8.30 pm. (and that is just wrong...)
It is very still and the strong and gusty nor westerlies haven't arrived..

Yay...( I know I said that twice) but it IS hot..

So at the moment all is quiet on the Western Front...

The amazing Lotus aka sarcastic mom is hosting a (breast)feeding carnival.. My daughter the very bossy Veronica from Sleepless nights mentioned that maybe I should add my two cents worth..

My initial reaction was for goodness sakes Veronica what on earth could I possibly contribute to a breastfeeding discussion.I haven't breastfed for years..But then of course the seed was planted...and the eternally bossy and demanding eldest child of mine has got her own way again *sigh*

I never wear a bra at home ..Ever.. My boobs are huge they are enormously massively ample.I can, if provoked use them as weapons of mass destruction.. A full blown Tittie smack from me is very similar to being body slammed by Hulk Hogan...

At a Tas Rally once I was so pissed off by the small titties and perfect bums vying for the crown of wet t-shirt princess that I stormed the stage, milk filled breasts in hand and squirted the compere with milk.. I loudly declared that these were proper TITS... and then squirted the whole front row of hairy biker type men for good luck... hehehehe I got a dozen cans of vodka udls for that ... And a huge round of applause when I loudly asserted that boobs were for babies

I was young.I was pissed. (mum was baby-sitting Veronica) I was militant. I was sick and tired of it being ok to flash your tits if it was for the pleasure of men,, but breastfeeding mums were being made to feed their babies in stinky public toilets..

The Great Booby Fest

Ok I was recently over at Her Bad Mother, who had a link to The League of Maternal Justice who had these cute little buttons for me to stick on my blog.

Well yes they are cute but they are also meaningful. There will be a virtual nurse in on October 10th at 10am, to protest against Facebook deleting pictures of breastfeeding babies, but leaving up photos of half naked girls and pro-anorexia profiles.

Now back to me..Kim ...I breastfed and was quite militant about being able to breastfeed in public... In the late eighties it was considered quite offensive
to whack the 'ol titty out in public and give the offspring a feed... never mind that
you could never see more than a centimetre of bare skin... and only ever get a glimpse of a milky nipple, before the offspring latched back on...gleefully hogging the aforementioned nipple...

It gave me the shits, that a prominent Hobart venue charged top dollar for a
'Los Vegas' type revue/musical/thingy.. with topless dancers wearing impossible
feathered headdresses, and not much more... and this was totally respectable..
yet a mother breastfeeding her child in public was viewed as disgusting...
and offensive...sigh...
So I was part of a breastfeeding protest 'feed in' with lots of mums coming together to feed their babes in public...

It saddens me that nearly twenty years later my daughter still suffers the same prejudices that I faced feeding her.. feeding my grandaughter...

Here is a dark sky shot that I took on Wednesday, I think that this shot mirrors my mood today..

I heard on the news today that the the 'Ruddy Government' as part of its cost cutting anti inflation measures, is going to abolish the annual carer payment bonus...

I heard this on the radio as I was driving to TAFE today. My first thought was 'typical'..

My next thought was Oh Fuck! That's Us! Shit Shit Shit... We need that money.. We really really need that money.. Because I am a full time carer, I was expecting to receive a $1600 cash boost in June this year, as we have received for the previous four years..

I wont go into details on how this decision will impact my family at the moment as I am feeling pretty gutted that any government would slash at the knees of the most Vulnerable members of society...Let alone an australian Labour government.. Bastardages...

But at the same time , Why am I not surprised??? It is so easy to cut the funds from disability payments or from programs aimed at helping families in crises .. Hell we are used to fucking living below the poverty line, and not having any services or support

I am crying now as I am writing this because it just isnt fair..I had actually been expecting this cut back but when I heard it this morning it was like a physical kick in the guts.. Truly I felt ill.. physically ill... I have been alternately sick or sooking.. All Day,, Bastards!!! I rarely get sooky and I never ever feel ill. but I think this decision might be enough to tip my scales..

The new house, a partial update.

Veronica, Nathan and Miss Amy have settled in very nicely at their new home. Amy has been sleeping quite well in her new bedroom. So I am crossing my fingers that it keeps up.

The new house is on tank water, which means that all the water into the house comes from an above-ground rain water tank. To get the water into the house you need an electric pump. (this is a picture of ours)These pumps are pretty noisy so they are usually outside next to the tank.

Vonnie and Nathans pump was in the bathroom cupboard under the sink... mmm a very strange place for a pump... and it wasn't working *sigh* The water that was coming out of the taps was just a trickle.

Today the Spouse and our friend poppy Stan fixed the water pump.. It is still in the bathroom, it is still very noisy but it is working... Yay.... and the water is gushing out of the taps WooHooo!!!
Nathan and poppy Stan put the ridgecapping onto the shed roof, so now the shed is waterproof, (well from the top at least..)

I don't really want to write too much about Vonnie and Natty's new home because It is Veronica's story to tell and also cause Vonnie is a much better writer than me..

But I can tell you that in todays market it was a good buy. The soil looks like it is good fertile sandy loam.My green fingers are itching to play in that soil.. We think there might be a spring at the far corner of the block.I also think that there still might be one or two fruit trees in pots in my late grandfather's garden, that we can plant this winter.The possibilities are endless....

I am really proud of the two of them.. Veronica and Nathan are full of plans and I think that the both of them are walking a bit taller...

I have been given quite a lot of awards in the past few weeks. Each time someone gives me a lovely piece of "bloggy bling" I think ,"Yay and Excellent and Woo Hoo!!!!" I have to think these excited thoughts because if I high-fived the air next to my computer and Yelled them out, I would set the dog off into a fit of loud barking, which would remind the spouse that I was "still on that bloody computer"etc.etc. Anyhow back to the most important business at hand Awards...

I am tired and a bit sore, my right wrist is a tad tender and my knee is giving me a bit of grief.. But! But! But! I have had a great day today.. Yay.

I am finally back at TAFE after an impossibly long summer break. I have had two very intense days in the ceramic studio. I am a happy Happy girl..

Look at this sunrise.. I think the colours here capture my mood today.. The pic is a bit blurry because it was bloody cold this morning and I was on the balcony in my knickers taking this.. before my first coffee too!!!!!

I had plenty of clothes on when I took this shot but then a leaf blocked one of the downpipes and I was not just shivering but soaked as well... hehehehe..

Zucchini Pickle

Zucchini Pickle.

1 kilo zucchini chopped

500 g onions chopped

1 can corn kernels..drained

500g white sugar (or more)

2 TBS curry powder

2 TBs cornflour (heaped)

1 tsp tumeric

500g beans chopped

¼ cup cooking salt

2TBS mustard

1 tsp paprika

6 cups white vinegar

1 large red capsicum chopped

Boil 5 cups of the vinegar with the zucchini, onion ,beans and capsicum for 20 minutes add corn and sugar.

Mix spices with the cup of vinegar add to the zucchini mixture and boil for another 5 minutes..

then bottle... yumm..

I went looking for snakes today....

I went looking for snakes today. I wanted to take a couple of photos but it was a bit hot and I couldn't be bothered walking down the hill. A large black tiger snake likes to bask in the sun atop a pile of rocks, halfway down the hill.. and it is a bit of a bugger of a walk.
So I wandered over to a pile of car parts instead. I know that there is a tiger snake that lurks over here. I heard some likely sounding rustlings but didn't see any snakes..

Witchypoo has mentioned a couple of times that she is a bit concerned that my frogponds will attract snakes.. So I thought that I had better take some pics and give her a better idea of the sort of country I live in.

This is part of my front yard. As you can see I don't live in suburbia and I am lucky enough to share my home with heaps of wildlife.. including all three types of Tasmanian snakes.

This is looking down the hill, the one I couldn't be bothered walking down earlier.

I have only been 'surprised' by a snake three times in my adult life, one of those times was when one of the cats brought me a young tiger snake as a gift..It was still alive but luckily it was only a baby. I get glimpses of a small copperhead hunting near one of the ponds occasionally but I have only ever see the flash of a tail disappearing.
I like snakes but I also treat them with respect. We taught the children 'snake safe' behaviour when they were very young.

My children walked down this dirt road to catch the school bus at the corner. Today David mentioned that on the walk home he saw a copperhead at the corner and then halfway home he saw a tiger snake disappearing into the scrub. Dave spoke about seeing the snakes as casually as a city kid would mention seeing an ice cream van on a hot day..It is something that you expect to see...

Recently there was a great bloggy give-away hosted by Rocks in my dryer and Look!!! I won something. I went over to A Bunch of Burts and entered Tina's competition for aThai hilltribes quilted zipper bag.

A parcel arrived for me today and inside the gorgeous quilted bag was this little elephant, carefully wrapped in elephant patterned paper. To say that I was thrilled to bits would be an understatement. I just cant explain how much this small gesture of kindness and generosity by Tina has made me feel .. ( apart from very happy)

This is 'the spouse' meeting our brand new niece Kaitlyn for the first time yesterday. Kaitlyn is just 6 weeks old and absolutely gorgeous *sigh* My brother and his wife came down from the mainland for the funeral. It has been a bittersweet week.

I am just writing stuff here and then deleting it.. Writing in circles so to speak.. I am so going to plan a new frog pond tomorrow.. then I am going to start on Petra's platter. but right now I am going to have another can of beer and a great big cry...

Clean up and Green up... WooHoo!!!!

Lotus aka Sarcastic Mom is trying to clean up her part of the world.

Here in Australia, We have the annual Clean up Australia Day which is huge.

The similarities with these two projects are also huge. Clean up Australia Day was the brainchild of one person. Ian Kiernan. Project Restore Beauty to Nature is the brainchild of one woman Lotus Carroll

I live a 'green lifestyle' I often forget that how I live here in my little part of the world is not actually considered normal.. and the day to day stuff that I do as part of my everyday routine would actually be considered a bit strange..

So today I have just included some photos as bit of a starter.. I would like to write a bit more about how I live and I would like to share some of the stuff that I take for granted. Simple things like using this bright yellow container in the sink when I wash the dishes.. 1. It uses heaps less water and 2. I can then tip the water onto thwe garden..

this photo is just for fun...

I have an organic garden. this is old horse poo. I am soaking this overnight because the manure is old and very dry.I will use this as a mulch and soil conditioner in the garden tomorrow. If I put it in the garden dry.. It would either rob the garden soil of precious moisture or it would just blow away..

I love this detergent. I put all my dishwater on my garden. this stuff hasn't got any of the nasties in it that will bugger up the ph balance of my soil.. and it is cheap.. and lasts for ages.. etc etc. and it only smells a bit lemony..

Eat more greens Yay...

When I build a new garden space, my first thoughts are for the frogs and lizards that I want to be in the garden with me. so I always try to create a habitat for them as well..

Yes that is right fellow chocoholics I feel like making a chocolate cake today. So I will share my favourite recipe with you all, in just one minute..

Tomorrow is the 11th of February here. As part of Lotus' Project Support Beauty in Nature. I think that I will do something that My grandfather did every time that he went for a walk. I will take a plastic bag with me and just pick up the rubbish that I find.. If you would like to participate in this project and would like a pretty button for your page. Chocolate Apple Cake...

500 g cooking apples (1 pound)
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 cups of self raising flour
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
125 g of butter (4 oz)
250 g of sugar (8 oz)
1/2 tsp vanilla essence

Peel and core the apples, slice them thickly, cook them with very little water. Meanwhile sift the cocoa and the flour together thoroughly and return to the sieve.Have the bicarbonate of soda ready measured out and grease a large, deep square cake tin.
Cream the butter with the sugar and the vanilla essence.
When the apples are cooked, remove from the heat and drain well.Add the bicarb of soda at once. While the mixture is still fizzing turn it into the creamed butter and sugar and beat thoroughly. sift in about half of the flour and cocoa. Stir and beat quickly. Stir in the remainder of the flour and beat quickly again. Turn at once into the prepared cake tin and bake in a moderate oven for 30-45 minutes..

note: it is important that the apples are well drained. too much moisture will spoil the cake....

This is my Grandfather. Pop died at home this morning, Suddenly but peacefully.

This photo was taken at Vonnies on Christmas day..

As I was in the garden today trying to sort out my feelings I heard Pop whisper to me.."You need to get a bit of practice in on your batting Kimmy."

I laughed out loud at that.. My batting performance in the Christmas day cricket match was very ordinary.

I felt very close to my pop in the garden today. Which is as it should be because my Grandfather gave me most of my fruit trees, he grew them all from seed, for me. I am getting a bit too teary to write much more here today. xxx Kim

Global Warming is to blame phew

A chance comment on my post *doh* has made me think.. ...

Old Knudsen said...I heard that Global warming makes you appear heavier than you actually are. and not just you.

My response was:"Nice try ole Fella but I don't think I can blame my fat arse on Global warming."

Then I started to think well, maybe I can..

It has been a hot summer here in Tassie a lot hotter than I am used to. The unseasonable heat can possibly be attributed to global warming. So to compensate for the unseasonal heat I have had to drink a lot of beer..

We haven't had any rain at all since well before Christmas. So instead of drinking precious water that could be used on the vegie garden, I have had to drink a lot of beer.

I am a tad stressed by the strange weather and what does an Aussie do when they are stressed? You guessed it. We drink a lot of beer..

The price of petrol is really expensive at the moment and the oil companies would have us peasants er consumers believe that this is due to global warming. So in order to use as little petrol as possible I have to drink a lot of beer. I never drink and drive.(because I crash..ooops)

So thanks to Old Knudsen for his comment I totally agree with him.

Yep global warming is definately to blame for my fat arse.. Now where's the beer???

Microwave Turkish delight

One of the photos that I had taken for this weeks Weekly Winners, was a tin of Turkish Delight that my mother had made for my birthday. I promised to share the recipe and so here it is.. This is a microwave recipe.. Mum reckons that this is a really simple way to make a yummy sweet treat. I haven't made this yet... but It is very very yummy...

1/4 cup of powdered gelatine
2 cups of caster sugar
3/4 cup of cornflour
1 1/3 cups of icing sugar mixture
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp rosewater
1 to 2 drops of red food colouring
1 block of chocolate

1. lightly grease a slice pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, allowing a 2 cm overhang at both long ends.

2. place 2 1/2 cups of hot water in a large heatproof. microwave safe bowl. sprinkle gelatine over the water. Using a fork, whisk until the gelatine dissolves. Stir in the caster sugar. microwave, uncovered on high for 5 mins.. Stir well. Microwave, uncovered on high for a further 4 to 5 minutes or until mixture is thick and syrupy.

3.whisk cornflour,icing sugar and cream of tartar into the gelatine/sugar mixture. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Stir in the rosewater and food colouring. pour into the prepared pan and refrigerate until firm.

4. this is where I would go and have a play in the garden.. maybe check my blog and sneakily read a couple of blogs.. (my computer is sort of in my kitchen hehehehe )

5. assuming that the Turkish delight has set. remove it from the pan.Using a hot knife cut into squares and put the squares on a new sheet of baking paper.

6.place chocolate in a heatproof, microwave safe bowl. Zap on high for 1-2 minutes stirring every 30 seconds..when chockie has melted, spoon it into a snap-lock bag. snip off the corner of the plastic bag and pipe the chocolate over the Turkish delight.. leave at room temperature until the chocolate has set..

* mum says to use the proper baking paper because greaseproof paper sticks like mad..

Store the Turkish Delight in the Fridge..

** warning this is very YUMMY.. don't give any to your children or partners because then you will be forced to share...

When Veronica, She of the sleepless Nights casually mentioned to me that there was a great bloggy giveaway happening. Little did I realize that when I succumbed to my daughter's bullying.. errr umm err, I mean agreed with her suggestion to join in the fun. That I would be absolutely gobsmacked with the response.. Like totally overwhelmed with the response..

I am a Potter.. I am still learning my craft. I dream about clay. I haven't played in the Mud since late November.. I want to thank everyone that has entered the competition on my blog. I especially want to thank you because I am excited about this project.. Very very excited.. I have itchy fingers and I am itching to get my hands dirty.. Yay So thank you all very very much.. I have included some photos of some of the stuff that I have made.. just as an example..

Monday Means Meme Mayhem

I have joined Blog 365. Yep in a moment of weakness I went over to the blog 365 site and signed up.. So I am committed to posting for 365 days etc etc etc..I also 'Blog Guiltfree' which means that I don't get stressed out about this committment that I have made.. At All!(gulp)..

Anyway.. the point is that I am starting to work out a bit of a structure to my 'bloggy life' as opposed to that other life in the real world.Where I have to cook food for the starving hordes and I have nothing resembling structure or order at all...*sigh*

No wonder the rotten thing was so bloody heavy.. apart from the essentials like phone,camera,wallet,hairbrush,mirror and tampons..I had a gluestick and a roll of stickytape and 2 rubber bands. A writing pad (but no pen or pencil) painkillers and anti histamines, I am allergic to bees and pain ..a purple plastic frog, a polished piece of glass ,3 shells ,a rock, one small container of bubble mix..( when you are a nanny you have gotta be prepared..) 8 band-aids and a handful of serviettes. roll on sunscreen(it's Australia) and a handful of chocolate eclairs. a pair of nail clippers and $5.45 in small change a triple AAA battery and a clothes peg. a tin of breathmints and two qwik eze. I also had a rather large handful of shopper dockets and receipts. and three envelopes... Tadaa!!!!! one clean handbag .. thanks Princess Polly..

I have just been over to Sleepless Nights giggling away as I generally do when I read anything Veronica has written.. I wonder where she got that sense of humour from hmmm??? Anyway Veronica was writing about routine and predictability and stuff assosciated with living with a tyrant umm I mean a toddler.

one comment was:-"Yep,the routine is inevitable..and how we will wish for it when they are all grown up!

What???? No way Lady! I certainly don't... No! No! No!

I don't miss having toddlers at all..I don't miss the sleepless nights or the nappies. I don't miss the massive amounts of washing or trying to shake a toddler off my leg so I can go to the toilet alone..I don't miss the fear when they are ill. You know that overwhelming feeling of impending doom at 3 am when you have a small child who is ill.. Nope I certainly don't miss that one at all.. I don't miss the isolation of being the only breastfeeding mother trying to live an alternative lifestyle in a small very conservative rural community. I don't miss the overwhelming loneliness I felt at all.. Not one bit...

I had started to write how I felt in Veronica's comments when I thought that I would write about it here instead..

I love being a grandmother. It is heaps more fun than being the mother..

I have received two awards in the past seven days and needless to say I am thrilled to bits..
cue: -*Excited jumping up and down*.The first one, the true blue award was kindly given to me by Maddy from Whitterer on Autism. Maddy seems to think that I deserve this award simply for my ability to annoy the nuns when I was held captive.. oops I meant when I was at school... If you haven't read either of Maddy's blogs I urge you to go and do so... Whitterer on Autism is simply superb.. and Alien in a foreign field needs a giggle warning...

Today feels like it is Monday..( Now shoosh Julie.) It is Tuesday here in Australia, it just feels like it is a Monday because I spent all day in bed yesterday, with a bucket.. poor me*sigh*.. I am all better now, thanks xxx..

Ok.. Kim's Handy Household tip number one..

This must be done in the middle of the night.. when the Toddler or Teenager, The Spouse or the MIL are fast asleep.. Ok.. Stealth is the word here..

Try and find yourself one of those wooden playpens.. the old fashioned sturdy ones are just fantastic..Set the play-pen up in the middle of your living area, rumpus / family room or even the kitchen will do in a pinch.. then place a comfy chair and a small table right in the middle of the playpen..
Now this is the tricky part... You need to get a small electric fence unit, complete with the white tape stuff and a car battery.. run the white tape all along the top of the playpen and connect the alligator clips to the car battery terminals.. remember to connect positive to positive(+ to+)or (red to red) making sure that the battery is well away from the edge of the playpen.. We don't want anyone to be able to reach the battery at all... BUT ONLY CONNECT THE POWER WHEN YOU AND YOUR LAPTOP ARE SAFELY INSIDE THE PLAYPEN.

Tadaa now you can blog away to your hearts content, free from interruptions..Oh make sure to have your camera handy as well.. I am sure that once your loved ones have discovered the electrified play pen there will be numerous photo opportunities..

Tomato Relish..

I bought an half case of tomatoes today. I am going to make relish..but totally addicted err um considerate blogger that I am *sigh* I am going to share My Grand Mother's Tomato Relish Recipe with you first.. * hehehe*

12 lbs tomatoes
2lbs onions (chopped)
2 tablespoons of curry powder
3 tablespoons of mustard powder
2lbs of sugar
4 cups of vinegar

Put chopped Tomatoes and onions into pan, sprinkle with salt and stand overnight.
In the morning drain the liquid from the pan. Make a paste with curry and mustard powder and some of the liquid. Place all ingredients into the pan and bring to the boil. Simmer for approximately 1 and 1/2 hours.. put relish into sterilised jars while still hot and seal..
