Phew!!!

Phew!!! luckily the strong winds forecast for this afternoon haven't arrived ,Yet....

This is the view from the western side of my house. all my "weather comes from the west"

This is the smoke from a big fire roughly 30 or so kilometres away.. that is "as the crow flies" or as the fucking embers float, whichever way you like to look at it.. It is too farking close..

All is well at the moment.Even though it is still a stinking hot 34 degrees at 8.30 pm. (and that is just wrong...)
It is very still and the strong and gusty nor westerlies haven't arrived..

Yay...( I know I said that twice) but it IS hot..

So at the moment all is quiet on the Western Front...

Does Taz have a lot of eucalyptus trees? I hear they burn like chip bags.

Wow. Amazing photos. Csilla has been learning about Australia lately. She loves a cute show called "The Koala Brothers". It's full of what I'm sure are Australian 'stereotypes', but it's cute nonetheless.

Hope everything is okay where you are. Best of luck.

How can something so damn frightening look so beautiful.

Far out, that's just too damn close for comfort.

It has been looking pretty yucky out here too. Especially this morning.

I don't know how to convert 34 degrees, but if you say it is hot - I believe you - it looks hot. Hope those fires stay far away from you! Take care and I'll see you soon. Kellan

You've got your bushfire evacuation plan in place? Everything ready to get out at the drop of a hat? (or at the drop of an ember?) Hopefully things don't come to that.

We have a bushfire plan River. We will stay and fight the fire.. The last fire that came through here was a big one in March 1992..And we stayed and fought that one.. there are heaps more houses up here now..
bushfires scare the crap out of me.. But we are well prepared.. we have a sprinkler system for the roof. a generator so we can still access water when the power goes.. etc etc..

Once I get passed the panicky sick feeling and get busy I am pretty right...

THAT WAS SO SCARY

The smoke just appeared out of nowhere and after awhile the sun dissappeared. I was running around checking where the smoke was going but I couldn't see a thing.

There was nothing on the news until 6:00pm so we assumed it was really close until then...

it smelled really bad and all our washing smells like smoke.

On the news they said '...There are a few small fires burning around (place1) (place2) (place3) (place4)...'

Then they went on to other news like it was nothing.

That colour in the sky is always so eerie, and scary. Hope you are OK. Bushfires scare the crap out of me too. Despite living in the burbs in Sydney I have spent enough time surrounded by national park to know what happens.

I really hope that as I write this you have low 20ish weather, rain and no fires around :)
